Kemerton
We obtained planning permission to extend and renovate this tired stone cottage in a prominent position on the side of Bredon Hill.
This project became somewhat challenging once works on site had commenced. We found that the existing stone walls weren't the actual original walls. The external walls were originally timber framed which had then had a stone face built on the outside and a skin
of blockwork built on the inside. There was no ventilation included to allow the timber frame to breathe so it had completely rotted away. We had to adapt the structural design as we encountered other hidden challenges along the build time, but eventually, the final result exceeded the client's expectations.
The roof would have originally been thatched.
This delightful project has put some shine back into the stone façade. The whole building is now a pleasure to live in and to admire.
Personally, I love working with natural stone, especially in the Cotswolds where I'm privileged to be just a bike ride away.
